How to Build a Gang Sheet in Canva (Step-by-Step)
Share
If you've never built a gang sheet before, the idea can feel a little intimidating — but once you've done it once, it takes less than 10 minutes. This guide walks you through the whole process in Canva, from setting up your canvas to exporting a file that's ready to print.
What's a Gang Sheet, Again?
A gang sheet is one large film sheet packed with as many designs as you can fit. Instead of ordering each design as a separate transfer, you load everything onto one sheet — which means more prints for your money. All our sheets are 22" wide; you choose the length (22×24", 22×36", or 22×48") based on how many designs you need to fit.
Step 1: Set Up Your Canvas in Canva
Open Canva and click Create a design → Custom size. Set the width and height to match the sheet size you ordered:
- 22" × 24" sheet: 6600 × 7200 px (at 300 DPI)
- 22" × 36" sheet: 6600 × 10800 px
- 22" × 48" sheet: 6600 × 14400 px
Canva works in pixels, so multiply your inches by 300 to get the right canvas size for print-quality output.
Step 2: Upload Your Designs
Click Uploads → Upload files and bring in your PNG files. Make sure each design has a transparent background — this is critical for DTF. If your design has a white background, the transfer will press with a white box around it.
If you're not sure whether your PNG has transparency, look for the gray checkerboard pattern in Canva's upload preview. That means it's transparent. No checkerboard = white background.
Step 3: Arrange Your Designs on the Sheet
Drag your designs onto the canvas and position them as tightly as you can without overlapping. Leave about 0.25" between each design (roughly 75 pixels at 300 DPI). The tighter you pack them, the more value you get out of the sheet.
A few tips that save time:
- Rotate designs to fill awkward gaps — a sideways logo can let you fit one more piece in a corner
- Group similar-sized designs together so you can scale them consistently
- Use Canva's alignment tools (under the toolbar) to keep things tidy without eyeballing
Step 4: Double-Check Your Sizes
Before you export, click each design and confirm the dimensions look right. A common mistake is accidentally scaling something down when dragging it onto the canvas. If you're pressing onto a shirt, most front designs run 10"–12" wide (3000–3600 px at 300 DPI). Hat logos are usually 2"–2.5" wide.
Step 5: Export as PNG
When everything looks good, click Share → Download → PNG. Make sure "Transparent background" is checked before downloading. This keeps your designs clean and ready to press on any color garment without an unwanted background showing up.
That's your gang sheet. Upload it directly when placing your order at Good Guyz DTF.
